We currently have several projects under construction at the shop - new sets for the National Aviary's Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater and for BUDDY, The Buddy Holly Story National Tour, which is a part of our exciting upcoming Summer Season! More photos will be added as the builds progress!
The National Aviary's Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater is the site of free-flight bird shows and interactive demonstrations of the bird's natural and trained behaviors. The set we're building will transition the space from a Caribbean coastline featuring parrots to a beautiful forest setting that will allow the Aviary trainers to introduce additional birds such as eagles, hawks, seagulls and owls with their new show. Our scenic artists are refurbishing and adding on to an existing tree and faux rock walls that surround a video screen. Newly designed (by our Charge Scenic!) features include backdrops, perches, obstacle courses and a waterfall! As a piece is completed, it is incorporated into the ongoing training of the birds so they can be introduced to and become accustomed to the new setting and props. This is still a work in progress; check back as it nears completion and debuts along with the all new show at the Aviary!
