Vibrant productions, innovative educational programs and bold new works define Pittsburgh CLO as a leader in the musical theater industry.
Pittsburgh CLO’s critically acclaimed productions have welcomed some of Broadway’s brightest stars and launched the careers of numerous talented performers. It counts among its many alumni Kathleen Marsall, Rob Marshall, Rob Ashford and Patrick Wilson, as well as Sutton Foster and Stephen Flaherty. The organization has also received international recognition for establishing the prestigious Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theater. The distinguished recipients of this award include Julie Andrews, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bernadette Peters and Shirley Jones.
Dedicated to the development of new works and showcase of new talent, recent Pittsburgh CLO productions include the National Tour of Dr. Dolittle, Barry Manilow’s Copacabana, Lunch, Casper the Musical starring Chita Rivera and six musicals for the Gallery of Heroes school series.
Pittsburgh CLO’s commitment to the future of the musical theater art form includes programs such as the Pittsburgh CLO Academy of Musical Theater, CLO Mini Stars, the nationally acclaimed Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater, the National High School Musical Theater Awards, the CLO/CMU New Works Project, the Construction Center for the Arts, and the CLO Cabaret, a unique venue that allows audiences to enjoy CLO-quality entertainment year-round in the Cultural District.
The mission of Pittsburgh CLO is the “celebration of musical theater.” Pittsburgh CLO is a not-for-profit cultural organization dedicated to the preservation, creation and promotion of the American musical theater art form, the furnishing of arts education and providing outreach and meaningful community service opportunities in Western Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.
